Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer P.E. and sports?

Afternoon activity time includes an option for structured sports as well as fun impromptu games that promote coordination and overall fitness. Students also have a full hour of outdoor free play every day, during which they frequently play pick-up soccer, capture the flag, or other neighborhood-style games. In addition, students in fifth-eighth grade who join our hospitality sports teams (flag football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and soccer in the spring) practice once weekly and have regular games with other league members.

Why don't you have computers in the classrooms?

Children pick up computer skills quickly and can do so with minimal instruction in their home environment, often becoming much more adept than their parents! Reading, writing, and arithmetic, on the other hand, are harder to master. We think it is more valuable to spend school time teaching these basic skills. We encourage students to use computers at home as a learning tool, such as to help with learning multiplication tables, vocabulary acquisition, or research. We encourage students in middle school to begin to learn keyboarding/typing as those students are welcome to type homework assignments.

Do you do any standardized testing?

We administer the Iowa Test of Basic Skills at the end of each school year, starting in third grade. The Iowa Test is widely used and accepted by public, private, and charter schools. Before entering kindergarten, students are given a kindergarten readiness assessment.

What is the admissions process?

Please call (828) 225-1993 to schedule a tour; we are happy to show you around. If you like what you see, send in an application along with a $50 nonrefundable application fee. After reviewing your application, and turning in all required forms, we will schedule a time for your child to visit the school and complete an academic evaluation (excluding K4/K). Students are accepted based on available openings, suitability to our program, and the school's ability to meet the child's needs. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.

What is your tuition?

Tuition is $11,714 per year for 7th and 8th grade, $11,490 per year for 5th grade and 6th grade, $11,322 per year for 3rd grade and 4th grade, $10,969 per year for 1st grade and 2nd grade, and $9,474 per year for K4 and Kindergarten. Tuition is payable in 12 monthly installments, and we offer a 15% discount for siblings.

Are there scholarships available? Do you offer financial aid?

We do not currently offer scholarships. Tuition assistance is available based on financial need, which is evaluated by the Board of Directors. You are required to fill out a financial aid form and submit it and other required documents with your application by February 1st.

We welcome Opportunity Scholarship recipients.

What about students with special needs?

Do you have a Parent-Teacher Organization?

Our PTO aids us tremendously in fundraising, social events, and school-beautification projects such as the garden. Any family member of a TNCA student is welcome to join the PTO, which meets on a monthly basis.

Will you be accredited?

Are you affiliated with any other schools or any religion?
