Each class at The New Classical Academy partners with a local organization for community service. We choose organizations that feel relevant to the students, in order to foster a connection and sense of responsibility. On the first Friday of each month, we spend the morning working to help others in need in Western North Carolina.

Our first-second grade class volunteers at MANNA Food Bank, where they sort donations, help put together MANNA Packs, and package food. While there they learn about the food insecurity facing people in this region and ways they can help, such as by holding food drives.

Our third-fourth grade class works at the Asheville Humane Society. Not only do they help socialize dogs and cats, they also help wash laundry, make treats, and wash dishes.

Our fifth-eighth grade students work with Asheville GreenWorks on various environmental projects, from cleaning out streams to removing invasive species and replacing them with native trees.

While our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten class does not leave school for service projects, the students have found ways that even they can help, such as putting together care packages for Homeward Bound or organizing a food and supply drive for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.
